TWO-TRACK

  1. Deborah,
Your little ‘gwashes’ look wonderful all together on one blog. …where they should be! I think it’s great that you have started a dedicated blog for gouache. I have so much to learn about the medium, and your paintings inspire me to carry on.

  2. Hi, Deborah

I'm very impressed by your little paintings to such extent that they have inspired me to learn this exciting medium --- gouache :)

P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm russian...

  3. Oh--I almost missed these nice comments!

Maggie, thank you so much! You know I'm inspired by you, too--so I guess we're int his together. :)

And your English is fine, my Russian friend (though I don't know what to call you!) I hope you find gouache to be a delight to use. I'm pleased you have visited. Thank you.

  4. Oh, Deborah, I've forgotten to change russian coding to latin in my name. In russian my name is Aleksei (I don't know is it right written?). You may call me just Alex :) Thank you for your warm words to me. I'll try to do all my best to find gouache a delight for myself :) I'm a novice in painting...

  5. Thanks, Alex! Sometimes it's spelled as you have, Aleksei, and sometimes Alexi, but whatever the spelling I'm glad to know your name.

  6. Deborah, I'm grateful to you for sending me at wetcanvas. I've been already registered there and found in myself a bit of courage to post my first attempt in gouache :) Thank you for encouraging me in that...

  11. Hi Deborah, I'm a WC member also and I view your work all the time. Gouache seems such an interesting medium. Do you prefer this medium to oils or even acrylics and what about it do you like?

  12. Hi Totsy. You know, I don't work in oil or acrylics (only pastel) so I'm not sure I could compare the mediums that effectively, but I love gouache for a number of reasons. It can take interruptions so I can go and come back without problems, and if a brush is loaded with paint it washes out even when dry. I can structure paintings from dark to light. And it has a dry, almost dusty look like pastels, which I love. It lifts when re-wet so changes are relatively easy. Now that I'm becoming more comfortable with those 'sticks with squishy ends on them' (brushes--:) I'm doing better, and I'm starting to understand color shift when the paint dries. So for me it's been a delight!

Gouache is not just an illustrator's medium any more!! (Although one of the terrific advantages is that the dull surface photographs like a dream!)

The Intention to Blog...

I always have such good intentions to post my paintings on this blog. (Isn't there something about the road paved with good intentions?)...
