Glen Falls from above

Above Glen Falls, 2.5" x 3.5" on Arches 300# w/c

Glen Falls is a local spectacle, located on Ellicott Creek in Williamsville, NY. I was standing on the bride along Main Street, looking down to where the falls cascade over the edge, which is why you see such a sharp edge in the distance. It's a lovely little park, and the falls are impressive. One of these days I'll paint  them, too.

Favorite part: The shady spot in the lower right-hand corner, with the rocks and reflections beneath the overhanging trees.

Mountain Lake

This is from the Watercolor Challenge over at WetCanvas. I liked the original photo and thought I'd crop, spindle and mutilate it a little. Take a look and you'll see how different it is. I like the contrasts, the swooping composition, and the reflections. You know how every painting has a little something you really enjoy? In this one it's the way I got the top of the pine tree against the snowy bit on the mountain. *bling* Made me happy.

Painted in gouache, again on Bristol Vellum, 2.5" x 3.5".

Jazz Bowl

I've been playing with this little mixing bowl and learning a lot about reflections. One night I set it up on my colorful tablecloth atop a box a little above eye level, turned a spot on it from above and painted what I saw. I tried to keep the reflections loose and painterly, while catching the pattern of the cloth (which was a challenge!) Lots of fun!!!

It's also 5x5" on Arches 300 lb. cold press.

Asian Pear, Tomato Nook

Asian Pear

Tomato Nook

Both of these are 5"x5", which is fairly large for me! I used Arches 300 lb. cold press watercolor paper, giving it that nice texture, and used looser strokes. My husband brought home the Asian Pear to me and I had to paint it before giving it a taste test...

It was fun experimenting with the reflective bowl. I like the reflection of the pear. It's something I intend to continue painting. The interior of the bowl makes an interesting nook for the tomato, not as highly reflective, with a soft, dull sheen. It made the colors inside the bowl completely different than those outside, a trait I want to experiment with further.

Gurgle and Sparkle

Have you ever sat beside a deep brook flowing swiftly downstream? It's a treat to the ear and the eye. That's why I call this one Gurgle and Sparkle. I enjoyed sorting out the choppy water, the spray from the little waterfall, and painting the rocks, but the green and purple reflections were the most fun. I hope you can hear that lively sound when you view this one!

My usual little size, 3.5" x 2.5", on Bristol paper.

Pond at Sunrise

I've begun walking in the mornings and this pond on my accustomed route always catches my eye. It was 'sunrise' to me--probably not technically! But the glistening sun peeking over the top of Sandia was what made it so exciting.  To me, the clean bright colors speak of the morning's beauty and freshness.

Fog on Tamales Bay

I used a photo from Robert at WetCanvas (aka skappy), of beautiful Tamales Bay in California. It's an area I always loved visiting and I found myself letting the fog roll in as I painted. It's on Illustration Board, so I could add water and let the fog pool on top of the paper.

On the River

This one is gone already, but only because I gave it to a friend who's been wanting one like it for a long time. It's done from the same photo as Moon River. It's fun to see the differences a couple years make.

I love the texture of this Canva-Paper. If you didn't know it was the size of a business card you might think it was an oil painting.

Splashing Around in Spring

I was recently inspired by some floral watercolor paintings I spotted on Instagram. Pamela Harnois does these lovely, quick, colorful floral...
