Royalty

My friend Barbara Noonan, who paints fantastic portraits, allowed me to practice with her photographs. Now, you have to understand, she is also a fine photographer, so this was quite a boon! This is one of her pics. I loved her stance, like a princess, her beautiful curls, and those eyes. I don't know that I did this beauty any real justice, but I am having a blast painting portraits. It's on Canva-Paper, so another miniature oil painting look alike.

For now I'm not offering these for sale, but I may soon. I'm becoming more confident with practice. That's the idea, after all. I'd love to know what you think, if there are any "yous" out there looking in...

  1. I've been enjoying your portraits (but I enjoy all of your work). Can I ask you what you generally use for flesh tones? This is an area I really struggle with.

  2. Mike, sorry it's taken me so long to respond! Thank you so much. Glad to know you like my work. I guess because I've come to portraits via landscapes, and as a teacher who has pushed the idea of values over colors, I really never thought about the pigments I'm using. Skin isn't any one color. I use a lot of different pigments, which I outlined, along with a photograph of my palette in this post on WetCanvas: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13726606&postcount=42 I hope that's helpful!

The Intention to Blog...

I always have such good intentions to post my paintings on this blog. (Isn't there something about the road paved with good intentions?)...
